☆ ME ☆
I’m a working class dance maker from Bransholme Hull, who utilises my autobiographical experiences into my practice. I believe stories such as mine are never given visibility within the national dance sector and this absence fuels me to transgress such barriers and show/tell that working class folks can create/make dance. Dance which is engaging and pushes boundaries artistically/visually.
After training at the Laban Centre, I quickly lost interest in traditional forms of contemporary dance and therefore made my practice centred on pushing the boundaries of its form. I felt that dance wasn’t as inclusive as other art practices and I knew that I had to take an alternative perhaps more European route.
In the summer of 2017 I became a recipient of the DanceWeb Scholarship, a programme run within ImpulsTanz for 33 young promising dance makers. The scholarship focuses on collaboration, elevated learning and the sharing of practices amongst international dance makers. My practice drastically changed after the programme and I now take more artistic risk with my work especially in regards to dramaturgy, movement and providing visibility to LGBTQAI orientated work.
